Indecent Circus
You side walked
when I walked
almost stepping on your toes
striding methodically over
the cobblestones
you laughed without provocation
smiling boyishly whispering “follow me…”
like you have some covert mission
hidden deep under the bed
that will commence
as this message self destructs
in a matter of minutes…
Creeping slyly, as if you were the cougar,
you pounced.
The hunter, unprepared and off guard,
smiled and concured – backing slowly
Stalking like a wolf, eyes focused.
Predator turns to prey, prey licks his lips
and marks the board.
My inquisitive curiosity…killed the cat…the dog and my soul
and my wintry distance will cause us both to ache.
The fierce intrigue is alarming and consoling
and tomorrow, you could be empty with sorrow,
I wont believe it,
even now.
I’ve seen the many emotions of life,
and they never cease to amaze me.
It’s just like the mornings of homemade breakfast and crawling back into bed.
Days in canoes and kayaks floating intoxicated summer dreams down river.
Coming home to your favorite dinner, and desert (and after desert, desert.)
It’s like waking up entangled in a a warm body and realizing it’s the only safe place in the world.
Finding luck in all the wrong places, and learning to believe it could happen again.
We wonder for years on end….
will the chaos pleasure us for once
and suspend the circus?
